The Children’s Reception Center in Kampala offers a shelter for children between the ages of 2 and 12 who are not safe at home or have been picked up or abandoned. The term reception house already explains that this institution is not an orphanage. The headmistress tries to find relatives where the children can grow up as protected as possible. Unfortunately, there are already many half-orphans or full orphans in Uganda who are raised within the family, so the mediation does not always succeed.
In Uganda, 50% of the population is under the age of 15. Fill The Gap International has children from the reception house in care and we support the facility as good as we can. It is possible, to sponsor a child, but one-time donations also help!
See how to get involved.
Several children are now sponsored by us and thus really have the chance of healing, education and a better future. In addition, we care for the little heroes in the prisons and include disabled children in our support program. In most cases, parents or single parents cannot afford physiotherapy or other necessary medical treatments. The state does not support families. There is also no child benefit or a state school system as we know it in Germany or Europe. For each child, school supplies, uniforms and school fees must be paid. Few families can afford it, even on a regular income.
Shopprite, a South African, well-known supermarket chain in Uganda, has a big heart for the little ones and blessed us at Christmas with a generous toy donation.
